The HM50N06 is HeroMicro an N-channel power MOSFET fabricated using planar technology, designed for medium-to-high current switching applications. With low on-resistance (typ. 18 mΩ, max 23 mΩ @ VGS=10V), high pulsed current capability (200 A), and robust thermal performance, it is well-suited for PWM control, load switching, power management, motor drives, and consumer electronics.

2. Key Usage Guidelines
(1) Gate Drive Optimization
Drive with VGS = 10 V for minimum RDS(ON). Avoid 5V logic-level drive, as RDS(ON) increases significantly.
Use RG = 2–10 Ω; datasheet uses RG = 3 Ω as reference.
(2) Thermal Management & Mounting
Mount the TO-220 tab (drain) to a heatsink using insulating hardware if needed.
With RθJC = 1.65 °C/W and 120 W rating, ensure case temperature is controlled under continuous high-current operation.
(3) Body Diode for Freewheeling
Supports 50 A continuous reverse current; fast trr (52 ns) reduces recovery loss in inductive loads.
(4) Avalanche Capability
Rated for 272 mJ single-pulse avalanche energy—suitable for small motors or relay coils.
Add TVS or snubber on drain for enhanced protection.
(5) Pulsed Operation
IDM = 200 A is valid only for short pulses (typically <100 μs, low duty cycle).
Always verify junction temperature does not exceed 150°C.
3. Typical Applications
12V/24V load switches (automotive, industrial)
Main switch in Buck/Boost DC-DC converters
Low-side driver in small DC motor H-bridges
Power management (hot-swap, ORing controllers)
LED driver power stages
4. Summary
The HM50N06 offers an excellent balance of 60V rating, 50A current capability, ultra-low RDS(ON), and robust TO-220 packaging. With proper drive, thermal design, and pulsed operation awareness, it delivers high efficiency and reliability in a wide range of industrial, automotive, and consumer power applications.
