70V/56A Low RDS(ON) N-Channel MOSFET —— HM078R0ND Usage Guide

The HM078R0ND is HeroMicro an N-channel power MOSFET built using advanced high-cell-density trench technology, designed for high-efficiency and reliable power conversion applications. With ultra-low on-resistance (RDS(ON) < 8.5 mΩ @ VGS=10V), low gate charge, and excellent thermal performance, it is ideal for motor drives, DC-DC converters, inverters, electric tools, and industrial power supplies.

Power Dissipation (PD): 64 W (TC=25°C), RθJC = 2.34 °C/W

Operating Junction Temperature: –55°C to +175°C

2. Key Usage Guidelines

(1) Gate Drive Design

Drive with VGS = 10 V for minimum RDS(ON).

High Qg (77 nC) requires a dedicated gate driver; use RG = 10–20 Ω to balance switching speed and EMI.

(2) Thermal Management & PCB Layout

Solder the exposed thermal pad to a large copper pour (≥2 cm²).

Use multiple thermal vias to inner/ground layers to reduce RθJA.

Ensure TJ ≤ 175°C under continuous load via thermal simulation.

(3) Body Diode Performance

Low VSD (<1 V) and fast trr (26 ns) make it suitable for freewheeling and synchronous rectification.

Still monitor for voltage overshoot during hard switching.

(4) Safe Operating Area (SOA)

Refer to SOA curve (Fig. 10) to avoid thermal runaway.

Pulsed operation (≤300 μs, ≤1.5% duty) allows higher peak current.

(5) Application Tips

Ideal for buck/boost converters in 12V–48V systems.

Use bootstrap circuit for high-side drive in half-bridge configurations.

Add TVS or snubber at input to suppress voltage spikes.

3. Typical Applications

12V/24V/48V DC-DC converters

E-bike motor controllers

Industrial servo drives

Battery management systems (BMS)

Server and telecom power supplies

4. Summary

The HM078R0ND offers an excellent balance of 70V blocking voltage, 56A current capability, ultra-low RDS(ON), and efficient TO-252 thermal performance. With proper gate drive, PCB thermal design, and SOA compliance, it enables compact, efficient, and robust power solutions for mid-power electronics.
