HeroMicro Launches CA3140: A High-Performance BiMOS Operational Amplifier

Recently, HeroMicro, a leading domestic semiconductor company, officially introduced its latest BiMOS operational amplifier — the CA3140. This device combines the advantages of high-voltage PMOS transistors and high-voltage bipolar transistors on a single monolithic chip, delivering exceptional performance in input impedance, low input current, wide common-mode voltage range, and robust output protection. It is suitable for a wide range of analog signal processing and industrial control applications.

The CA3140 features a PMOS input stage that provides a typical input impedance as high as 1.5TΩ and an extremely low input bias current of 10pA (typical) at +15V supply voltage. These characteristics make it ideal for high-precision and low-noise applications. Its common-mode input voltage range extends down to 0.5V below the negative supply rail, making it especially suitable for single-supply systems such as automotive electronics and portable instrumentation.

The device supports a wide supply voltage range from 4V to 36V, allowing both single and dual supply operation. Internally phase-compensated, the CA3140 ensures stable operation even in unity gain follower configurations. An external compensation pin is also available for further frequency roll-off adjustment. Additionally, nulling terminals are provided for applications requiring offset voltage trimming.

The output stage employs high-performance bipolar transistors with built-in protection against short circuits to either power rail or ground, significantly improving system reliability and durability.

The CA3140 is well-suited for numerous applications including sample-and-hold amplifiers, long-duration timers/multivibrators (ranging from microseconds to hours), photocurrent instrumentation, peak detectors, active filters, comparators, interface circuits in 5V TTL systems, function generators, tone controls, power supplies, portable instruments, and intrusion alarm systems. It can also serve as a direct replacement for the industry-standard 741 op-amp in most applications.

With its versatile performance and broad applicability, the CA3140 expands HeroMicro’s portfolio in the analog IC market and strengthens its position in the domestic high-performance analog semiconductor space. Looking ahead, HeroMicro will continue to focus on customer needs, invest in R&D, and deliver more high-performance, energy-efficient semiconductor solutions to support the growth of China's electronics industry.
